We were saddened to hear about a recent explosion in New York and the potential for people getting hurt. In it’s report about the incident, the New York Daily News posted about a drone that was used to capture some pretty stunning video of an explosion that flattened two buildings in East Harlem. What we found interesting were the comments on the article where people shared their thoughts about the use of drones. While the focus in incidents like this needs to always be for the rescue and safety of people, it does open up the question about how drones can fly over the traditional boundaries placed at the scene of an incident. As we continue to journey through the potential applications of drone technology, ensuring that we all are respectful of people’s right to privacy along with adding value with our footage should be a top priority of all drone pilots.
